 Artist Adria Trail

Artist Show and Opening Reception

Artist Adria Trail

The Mindpower Gallery in downtown Reedsport is honored to feature local Reedsport Artist Adria Trail in her own showcase entitled ‘Land Sea and Fantasy’. The opening reception will be held on Friday, June 6th from 4 pm to 7 pm and will feature a wide variety of work in multiple mediums.

Artists can often express themselves through multiple genres and Adria Trail is an artist who demonstrates this with her extraordinary talent, creative imagination and competent skillsets.

Adria, when asked about her broad range of style will say: ‘It is not important to me to be consistent in subject or medium. Colors and style change with me day by day. Sometimes I sign my first name with two “i” s and sometimes with just one. My artwork comes in fits and spurts without much planning; revealed in the rendering of layers to the surface finish. There are usually ten to twelve pieces waiting on completion at a time. Some call my work romantic surrealism, with a mathematic approach to line spacing, others call it undisciplined. What ties my pieces together is the quest for beauty, color and detail, expressed in an amusing or serious way; whether it is perceived to be light or dark’.

“There’s so much to see in this old world; especially if you look closely. We can observe celestial masterpieces being painted above us and microcosms thriving beneath our feet. Life and color and atmosphere inspire my art.”

With so many mediums mastered to choose from when creating, it may surprise some to know Adria is also an avid photographer. To Adria the difference is wrapped us thus; “Photography is for me like collecting treasures… little gems from passing visions. Painting is my compelling freedom to work without words to bring to the surface expressions that are part of me.”

Being born into an artistic family of craftspeople, her interests have always been about art, music and the Word of Truth. She says, “My early education was through watching others create – mostly my mother – sewing, woodworking and crafting. High school days were spent mainly between art classes, mural painting (including a 100-foot-long mural of a dragon toasting a soccer ball) and sidewalk chalking followed by sports practice. Many fellow students allowed me to decorate their arms and legs with sharpie tattoos on the way to track meets on long bus rides.”

“I didn’t start reading art literature until after high school, aside from one Georgia O’Keefe book that was left out on the table in 11th grade. In college I hid in the art section of the library instead of studying for other classes. The second year I spent fully immersed in studio classes – the highlight of the time spent at SOU. Later education consisted of the too few art programs available on OPB, and every art book available on the shelves of Coos County public library.”

Although there is a large body of work, her work has been halted at times to make room for being a wife, co-Pastor, piano player for a praise team, and singer in a quartet, then trio. Many building projects and ministry volunteering had her reserving creative time to the late night and early morning hours. Today, Adria no longer has to sneak time to paint. Every room of her home she has transformed into a gallery/studio. Besides her art Adria shares, “Having music playing and paint moving is one of the greater privileges I enjoy, as well as sharing God’s word and cooking, playing the piano and accordion, singing, and driving out to explore outdoor photography opportunities.”

Mindpower Gallery is eager to share with the coastal and surrounding communities a glimpse into the many talents of Adria Trail in this one artist featured showcase. Please join us in celebrating this body of work by Adria Trail from 4pm to 7pm at the opening reception in her honor. ‘Land, Sea and Fantasy’ has so much to delight the viewer and will be featured through July 11th, 2025. Gallery regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and during special Friday events from 10 am to 7 pm. For more information or event date inquiries please visit the Mindpower Gallery’s webpage, Facebook or by calling (541) 271-2485.

After a home town watercolor class I was hooked. I’m always looking for scenes with light and shadows. Combined with details, that my passion.!

I’m originally from Colorado, but have been living in Florence Oregon for the past 19 years. I’m retired now after owning a coffee shop and gallery for 19 years. I spend my days walking my dog and painting, I do wheel throwing pottery, mosaics and quilting.

I grew up in a wonderfully dysfunctional family in New York City. With much diligence and hard work, I attended college and graduated as a philosophy major. I later moved to Los Angeles, and without any formal training in film making, I managed to have a successful career as a television editor, even winning multiple Emmy Awards.

Some artists are professionals, others pursue a hobby while others pick up a paint brush, camera or other device in order to escape the rigors of every day life and find an inner voice. No matter the reason, let’s endeavor to support one another to become our best artist ever.

Susan Lehman

Susan Lehman

Creating movement and texture is exciting to me. Using found and artist created collage materials, along with layers of acrylic glazes, to express my South Coast Oregon environment is second nature to me. Rugged beauty of wind and sea, raw Nature are my inspirations. I like making things I have never seen before, surprising myself with unusual images, textures, and color palettes. There is always a hidden sparkle, a metallic glaze that catches the light as you walk past, inviting you in.

Susan Lehman has lived on the edge of the continent for 25 years, where land meets the sea. Classically trained at California College of Arts and Crafts, Susan works daily to express all that surrounds her. By using exotic papers from around the world and ones she creates from recycled materials, Susan works her magic. A lifelong artist, Susan has shown her creations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento River Valley Galleries, Oregon Coast Galleries, Medford Rogue Gallery and in the Seattle Area.

I am a creative arts photographer with over forty years of experiences ranging from studio work, to travel photography, to Fine Art. Today my passion is to create beautiful compelling images of the land and seascapes of the North-West. I search out images with a strong subject, quality light and artful composition. My subjects include sandy beaches, historic lighthouses and coastal wild-lands. My color pallet ranges from the delicate pastel shades of a spring morning to the cold brooding colors of a churning winter storm.

This year I celebrate 50 years since I learned to paint from my Great Aunt Sally and also became a mother, it was a big year for me. After that,I painted a lot and took commissions when I could get them while my children were young. After they started school I began attending college where I studied Chemistry and a did a minor in art. I worked as a research chemist for a decade or so and then my husband and I operated a family plant nursery for a couple of decades. Nowadays I’m a full time artist and enjoy exploring the mountains, meadows and forests around my home in Oakridge and visiting the glorious coast as often as possible.

My approach to painting has changed over the years, now that I can paint without thinking about it much I find that I am in the studio with a feeling about a painting more than an image in my mind. It’s almost like when you are trying to think of the right word to place in a sentence but can’t quite reach it (that is happening to me a lot now) it’s very slippery and ephemeral. So I just start painting something that I remember seeing on a recent hike and the feelings take over with no place to go but the canvas. Color is a remarkably effective way to express feelings and it is the most enjoyable and least damaging way I have found to do it!

Painting – Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and fresco.

I’ve been creating art or craft since I was a child and my mother taught me to sew. I finally ended my search for the “perfect” medium for me when I found art quilting.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been included in group gallery shows as well as solo shows. These include Mindpower Gallery, Tsunami Gallery, the Newport Visual Arts Center, the Elkton Community Education Center, and Black Market Gourmet.

I’ve been awarded various ribbons and awards at Oregon quilt shows for my work.

I was included in University of Oregon Culture Keeper program in 2021.

I love capturing images from the world and replicating them either realistically or in abstract using fabric and fibers. I use both traditional and contemporary quilting techniques as well numerous mixed media techniques and supplies. The unlimited subject matter and yet untried mediums should keep my love of what I do and create alive for as long as I can still hold a needle.

Textile/Fiber Arts – Weaving, embroidery, quilting, and fabric dyeing.

My hectic life has me distracted and somewhat bored. My senses come alive when I’m in the studio. I listen to an eclectic genre of music, while breathing in an array of essential oils or incense. This allows me to focus, relax and concentrate on creating. I want to share the joy that this brings me with everyone.

My yearly earlier unique technique of impressionistic finger painting and detailed brush work was a favorite style, because it allows great flow and movement. Viewers love the bold vibrant energetic colors and are drawn to the detailed portion.

Acrylic painting is a constant favorite for the detail possible.

My newest passion is being a Gourd artist, because of the wide range and versatility possible. From wood burning, carving and almost anything you can imagine.

If my pieces can bring one person, the joy that I experience while creating, I have achieved my purpose as an artist.

My art is not about me, it’s about the world I see.
