Creating movement and texture is exciting to me. Using found and artist created collage materials, along with layers of acrylic glazes, to express my South Coast Oregon environment is second nature to me. Rugged beauty of wind and sea, raw Nature are my inspirations. I like making things I have never seen before, surprising myself with unusual images, textures, and color palettes. There is always a hidden sparkle, a metallic glaze that catches the light as you walk past, inviting you in.

Susan Lehman has lived on the edge of the continent for 25 years, where land meets the sea. Classically trained at California College of Arts and Crafts, Susan works daily to express all that surrounds her. By using exotic papers from around the world and ones she creates from recycled materials, Susan works her magic. A lifelong artist, Susan has shown her creations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento River Valley Galleries, Oregon Coast Galleries, Medford Rogue Gallery and in the Seattle Area.

I am a creative arts photographer with over forty years of experiences ranging from studio work, to travel photography, to Fine Art. Today my passion is to create beautiful compelling images of the land and seascapes of the North-West. I search out images with a strong subject, quality light and artful composition. My subjects include sandy beaches, historic lighthouses and coastal wild-lands. My color pallet ranges from the delicate pastel shades of a spring morning to the cold brooding colors of a churning winter storm.

Dee Sidwell Fine Art

This year I celebrate 50 years since I learned to paint from my Great Aunt Sally and also became a mother, it was a big year for me. After that,I painted a lot and took commissions when I could get them while my children were young. After they started school I began attending college where I studied Chemistry and a did a minor in art. I worked as a research chemist for a decade or so and then my husband and I operated a family plant nursery for a couple of decades. Nowadays I’m a full time artist and enjoy exploring the mountains, meadows and forests around my home in Oakridge and visiting the glorious coast as often as possible.

My approach to painting has changed over the years, now that I can paint without thinking about it much I find that I am in the studio with a feeling about a painting more than an image in my mind. It’s almost like when you are trying to think of the right word to place in a sentence but can’t quite reach it (that is happening to me a lot now) it’s very slippery and ephemeral. So I just start painting something that I remember seeing on a recent hike and the feelings take over with no place to go but the canvas. Color is a remarkably effective way to express feelings and it is the most enjoyable and least damaging way I have found to do it!

Painting – Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and fresco.

Theresa Richards Chickering

Theresa Richards Chickering

I’ve been creating art or craft since I was a child and my mother taught me to sew. I finally ended my search for the “perfect” medium for me when I found art quilting.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been included in group gallery shows as well as solo shows. These include Mindpower Gallery, Tsunami Gallery, the Newport Visual Arts Center, the Elkton Community Education Center, and Black Market Gourmet.

I’ve been awarded various ribbons and awards at Oregon quilt shows for my work.

I was included in University of Oregon Culture Keeper program in 2021.

I love capturing images from the world and replicating them either realistically or in abstract using fabric and fibers. I use both traditional and contemporary quilting techniques as well numerous mixed media techniques and supplies. The unlimited subject matter and yet untried mediums should keep my love of what I do and create alive for as long as I can still hold a needle.

Textile/Fiber Arts – Weaving, embroidery, quilting, and fabric dyeing.

My hectic life has me distracted and somewhat bored. My senses come alive when I’m in the studio. I listen to an eclectic genre of music, while breathing in an array of essential oils or incense. This allows me to focus, relax and concentrate on creating. I want to share the joy that this brings me with everyone.

My yearly earlier unique technique of impressionistic finger painting and detailed brush work was a favorite style, because it allows great flow and movement. Viewers love the bold vibrant energetic colors and are drawn to the detailed portion.

Acrylic painting is a constant favorite for the detail possible.

My newest passion is being a Gourd artist, because of the wide range and versatility possible. From wood burning, carving and almost anything you can imagine.

If my pieces can bring one person, the joy that I experience while creating, I have achieved my purpose as an artist.

My art is not about me, it’s about the world I see.

Tara Kemp

Tara Kemp

After developing an interest in art at an early age, I studied Fine Art at Indiana University of PA. I have worked as a graphic designer, painter, photographer, and illustrator in Oregon for over 30 years.

I am a member of The Oil Painters of America, and The American Impressionist Society.

My work is often narrative in nature. I am drawn to paint subjects that evoke in the viewer a sense of connection, that have a story to tell, and hint at a shared common experience.

I use light and shadow in the composition, and design it in a way that energy flows through the scene to create a feeling of depth and dimension.

People often tell me they feel as if they can walk right into my paintings.

With the use of color and value changes, I create atmospheric perspective that supports this design of the painting.

Gesine Kratzner

Gesine is a sculptor, illustrator and animator who loves to invent squiggly creatures and to dream up small worlds and stories for them to inhabit. She came to Portland from Germany, via the Royal College of Art in London, to join animation house LAIKA. She has directed and designed numerous award winning commercials and her artwork has been featured in galleries along the West Coast. Lately she has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to creating ceramic sculpture.

I have been a sculptor all my life, working in a variety of mediums- paper mache, polymer, epoxy. Only in the past few years, since I acquired a kiln of my own, have I really been diving into clay and what a brilliant journey it has been!

I am a veteran of the Portland animation scene where I did a lot of character design for stop motion. This work has carried into my personal art. I make quirky creatures with a lot of personality, conveying their small joys and dramas. At any given time there are always a lot of eyeballs looking at me in my studio.

Sculpture – Wood carving, clay, metal, stone, and mixed-media sculptures.

Katie Zolezzi

Katie Royce Photography

Katie is a native Oregonian, and was raised in the tiny town of Elkton. As a child, she loved exploration and discovery. This included digging up discarded objects in the woods in an old area that had been used as a dump. She thought she might become an archaeologist one day, but science not being her strong suit, discovered a love for photography instead. Though the two pursuits may sound dissimilar, photography still finds her out in the woods exploring and searching for treasure in the form of nature scenes, light, and lines. It provides the same sense of excitement and discovery, with no digging required.

Photography became her passion back then, and remains so today. Katie’s images focus on serenity, emotion, and connection to nature. Her fine art photography business began in 2010 and is based in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

My photographic passion is capturing images in nature. Perhaps this springs from a love of being outdoors, and the way that I feel when I’m there. During my photography process, I look to capture what speaks to me. I watch light, shape, and perspective carefully before capturing my image. I utilize patience and observation foremost, paying especially close attention to the emotion evoked. Feelings of peace, tranquility, and serenity are common for me. At times, more dramatic feelings, such as solitude or loneliness are sparked. Regardless of the specific emotion, I find that being with nature is powerful, and I hope that others feel this too when viewing my images.
