Kary Keppol

Kary is an acrylic artist from the Oregon Coast, currently living in Seattle. She has a BFA in Illustration from Pacific Northwest College of Art and a Masters Certificate in Children’s Book Illustration from Hollins University. She taught painting here at Mindpower Gallery for three years before the Pandemic, and became a full-time artist shortly after. In 2023 she held her first solo show with Mindpower for her series 100 Cloudy Skies which featured 100 daily paintings of clouds that she completed that same year.

My work is inspired by my adventures in the Pacific Northwest, drawing from my personal experiences exploring its forests, mountains, and coastlines. With my background in illustration, I’m interested in narratives and how viewers will see different stories in the same picture. My paintings transform my own everyday moments into enchanted scenes, and bring to life a cast of characters on imaginative journeys. I’m just trying to share some extra magic in this already magical world.

Every room of my home is a gallery/studio. Having music playing and paint moving is one of the greater privileges I enjoy, as well as sharing God’s word and cooking, playing the piano and accordion, singing, and driving out to explore outdoor photography opportunities.

It is not important to me to be consistent in subject or medium. Colors and style change with me day by day. Sometimes I sign my first name with two “i” s and sometimes with just one. My artwork comes in fits and spurts without much planning; revealed in the rendering of layers to the surface finish. There are usually ten to twelve pieces waiting on completion at a time. Some call my work romantic surrealism, with a mathematic approach to line spacing, others call it undisciplined. What ties my pieces together is the quest for beauty color and detail, expressed in an amusing or serious way; whether it is perceived to be light or dark.

Inspired by my father, an artist, I have explored various forms of creativity at a young age. Starting with simple drawings, I experimented with different mediums and ultimately specialized in oil painting. I refined my skills under the mentorship of accomplished artists such as Ning Hou in California and Ezra Katz in Baja Sur, Mexico, and studied color theory in college. My growth continues through reading and learning from prominent Impressionist artist throughout history.

My work has been exhibited in various galleries, including Lake Tahoe, CA; Douglas Gallery in Spokane; Indigo Gallery in Todos, Santos, Baja Sur; and Mind Power Gallery in Reedsport, OR. I have received several awards at art shows.

Painting with oil paints and their vibrant hues is my meditation and a way to express creativity.

Discovering oils 34 years ago led to my interest in impressionism. Over the years, I have developed a unique style focused on expressing the beauty of our surroundings. Nature serves as my primary inspiration, allowing me to convey a sense of harmony and tranquility through my work.

Painting – Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and fresco.

Nothing in nature or life remains the same, and I’m captivated by the elegance of this impermanence. Camera in hand, I wander the Pacific Northwest curiously turning my attention to nature’s rhythmic cycles of birth, decay and renewal – each frame preserving the ephemeral beauty of life in motion. But, what I capture is not just about what I see. Those who engage with my work join me in a dialog of expression, their perspectives and impressions shaping our shared experience. Encouraged by memory and mood, each viewer participates with their own curiosity, turning a photograph a living conversation rather than a fixed statement. Together, we cultivate a shared appreciation that beauty is not always about grandiose or traditional aesthetics. It can also be about the subtle, the imperfect, and the transient – the quiet ebb of light at dusk, the tender movement of air through an open field, or the unseen forces sculpting a planet in endless motion.

I bought my first camera from an ad in the newspaper when I was just a teenager. That night, I took it out to follow a lone cloud drifting slowly across a clear evening sky. That singular fascination evolved into a lifelong passion for the visual medium and a profound connection with the natural world. This journey, which began in my youth, culminated in a years-long nomadic life. I now live in Oregon and wander the Pacific Northwest in search of interesting and unique landscapes, wildlife and plant life.

Photography – Digital, film, black & white, and conceptual photography.

Brenda J. Rose

Brenda J Rose Fine Art Studio

Brenda Rose started off with photography in her younger years. She was never totally satisfied and wanted to be able to paint the world that she’s saw, and be able to express that beauty on canvas. Over the years she has painted with water colors, ink and wash, pastels, acrylicsand oils. Each painting is a new experience and a joy to paint.

I find the beauty of God’s creation fascinating. Each person sees the world in different way and I love to be able to show how I see the beauty around me and express it on the canvas for others to see.

Painting – Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and fresco.

Kathryn Kolb Moon

Kathryn Kolb Moon

Kathy’s work can be found at her website www.moonkissedcreations.com. She chose the name “Moonkissed Gem & Mineral Creations” because she was looking for a verb, a word describing action. Kathy is a member of the Alliance for Metal Clay Art Worldwide (AMCAW) and is on the Communications and Marketing committee. AMCAW’s mission is to promote metal clay art across the world, and to provide resources to artists.

Continuing to work as a nurse practitioner, Kathy spends her off time singing at her spiritual community and at open mics, gardening and making jewelry. Her favorite place is on the river or at the beach, the breeze blowing in her hair and sun warming her cheeks. She has children scattered across the country, and a sweet young granddaughter who adores unicorns.

Nature has always beckoned to Kathy Moon. Throughout her life, she has been drawn to the texture and color of life. The bounty of the forest that surrounds her home provides ample inspiration for her art. It all started with a lost wax casting class in high school. She loved working with silver and carving wax, making rings and pendants. Fast forward many years later, after kids and careers, to a chance stop on a long trip across Nevada. She found herself in the Otteson family turquoise shop in Tonopah, NV. She bought a few ribbon turquoise cabochons, thinking she’d make something pretty.

Thus started her journey in wire wrapping. She had a brief lesson in wire wrapping at a local rock show. By the next year, and for the next 11, she demonstrated wire wrapping at the show, freely giving of her talent and love of gems and jewelry to her community. Her tools consist of her fingers and a few sets of pliers. She wraps with the intention of highlighting the beauty of the stone. Along the way she braved the torch and began doing some silver fabrication. Then she discovered metal clay.

Metal clay takes an impression with a flourish. It can be shaped, molded, cut and stamped. Once fabricated a piece is dried and then refined in its greenware state. Next it is fired in a kiln, the organic component burns out, leaving solid metal. One of Kathy’s favorite processes involves firing a dichroic cabochon in place. She also imbeds some stones and sets others after firing. The versatility of clay attracted Kathy initially, but the way she can use clay to capture nature continues to inspire her. Wherever she goes, she is always looking for textures she can capture to set into clay. Ferns, flowers, bark and twigs all inspire her to create.

There are no rules in art. For rules will restrict creativity and without creativity there can be no art.
